Tell us why you're Labour
Why I'm Labour...
- "I believe in a fair society where every single person has the opportunity to achieve their aims, regardless of their background. This is only possible under a Labour Government."
Richard Nelson
- "Because I don't want to be governed by the barrow boy mentality of the present Tories.
Man with a plan ? Should read man of no substance"
Vivian Rees
- "I believe in ideology , not pragmatism. I believe in opportunities for all, not just for those who can afford them, fairness , equality , open education and free health care, Labour has done and will carry on delivering these , that's why I'm Labour ."
Bethany North
- "I teained and worked as a teacher under the Tories - they stood for lack of investment, lack of vision, lack of innovation and pitting school against schools. Since those dark days. Labour has put our children in a position to compete globally. I have recently visited schools in other countries to look at ICT in action and other schools now come to visit schools with which I work to see ICT in action - Britain's schools are now 'world class' leaders in ICT and co-operate to share ideas to benefit all of our children thanks to Labour. Thank you Labour."
Dave Smith
- "It has long been my strong belief that thought of the greater good should underpin our actions. Because of the party's solid record on particular issues such as health, education, and human rights coupled with their proven track record on the economy - I am a Labour supporter."
Jonathan Turner
- "I want fairness and an equal chance for everyone. I want the continuation of a true National health Service, free for everyone. I believe that we need Gordon Brown's experience and ability to take us through the difficult economic time and I want to give him my support in a more tangible way than simply by voting Labour, which I have always done. "
Cathie Williams
- "because of Gordon Brown, his leadership, his vision and his fairness. "
pete briddon
- "I am Labour because I believe in equal opportunities for all.
I believe in everyone being able to work hard and achieve a better life for themselves. My husband and myself are both from working class backgrounds. He was a policeman and I a depute headteacher and we have three children who have been able to go through university. We are very proud that we are the first generation in our family to have achieved this and think that under labour more people will have similar opportunities to ourselves."
Mina Craig
- "Because I believe that the labour party has the countries best wishes at heart. I have voted for every main party previously but I cannot see myself voting for anyone but labour now. "
Vicky Coumbe
- "I'm Labour because I believe in fairness, equality and centre-left politics. The Tories don't offer any of this to me."
Thomas Rutland
- "Because i support our troopps in Afghanistan and Iraq and i support education to 18 and free nursery places to two year olds and i support Gordon Brown..."
James Sweeney
- "I watched every minute of Gordon Brown's Conference speech and liked what I heard. I have always thought that our Prime Minister was modestly working hard for us behind the scenes, rather than posing in front of TV cameras, journalists, photographers etc. Now I am sure he is. More power to your elbow, Mr Brown. You've got my vote!"
Margaret Green
- "There are so many criticisms of Labour of late but I think that there are so many policies introduced by Labour that have made a positive impact on my life - The NHS has helped my family through some struggling illnesses, The Welfare system enabled my mother to raise two children alone and The Minimum Wage has helped me to save vital funds to prepare for University life ahead of me. In short, Labour are the only party to provide equality and the chance for all of self-betterment."
George O'Toole
- "I belive in Labours basic principles such as helping the poor, and keeping public institutuions such as the N.H.S. open, as appose to the Tory "every man for himself" attitude. While it si not perfect, i belive it is the best option for the voter"
Ben Hardie
- "I'm Labour because this party cares about the future of all Britain's people and works to ensure that future prosperity is available to all know matter your background."
David Christie
- "Because I remember 11 years ago, waiting in A&E for 6 hours. I remember when some were earning just over a pound an hour. I remember when I had to learn in a temporary classroom - basically a shed - which had been there for 15 years.
Now our health service is in a better state than ever before and waiting times are a quarter of what they used to be. The poorest in Britain are far better off, and thanks to the investments made in education, schools have been rebuilt across the country, including my own.
We've come so far in the last 11 years, let's continue to move Britain forward."
Ben Rickett
- "I'm Labour because I remember what it was like to live under the Tories. I remember the lack of teachers and crayons at school. I remember the filth, wait times and understaffing at my GPs. I remember my Mum struggling with 3 young children as a single mum, working full time. I'm Labour because I appreciate the need for the rich to the help the poor, because Robin Hood was right. I'm Labour because I am now guaranteed minimum wage, protected from discrimination and ensured my rights. I'm Labour because I don't want to ever live under Tory rule again; I don't want my children to, like me, be born in an under-staffed under-resourced hospital; go to a school where their teachers are under trained and over stretched. I'm Labour because equality should not be determined by geography. I'm Labour because health care should not be a privlege but a right. I'm Labour because my blood is not blue, it's red. "
Frances Simpson-Allen
- "Labour has done so much for this country since 1997 but for me it's biggest achievement has been the minimum wage. It's hard to believe it didn't exist only 11 years ago. Thank you Labour."
Simon White
- "I originally aligned myself with Labour because I was a fan of Tony Blairs style of politics, but now I see how much Labout has done as a whole for this country. Increase of spending in state schools which I witnessed first hand throughout my time in high school, introduction of the minimum wage and generally providing a better quality of life for me and my mother and grandparents. Thank you Labour for all you have done for this country, people seem to only ever concentrate on Labour's mistakes and not their numerous achievements. I have very much enjoyed growing up in a Labour led country. "
Lisa Mitchell
- "Because everyone has a right to a first class health service and labour is the only party which will actually do this"
Steve O'Conner
- "You can say what you like about Labour I know they are the only Party who'll look out for people like me - ordinary people who work hard. "
Sheila Stevens
- "Because I believe the vast majority are better off than they've ever been (even those who don't deserve it or won't admit it) where as the other main party is only interested in people who already have money."
Andy Williams
- "This Labour Government have always shared my strong beliefs in social justice and they have delivered this. I am sure they will continue to do so.
Parents in this country do not need to choose which school to send their children to, as the majority of schools in Britain today are fit for all. They are much better-maintained, have a lot more teaching staff, have lower class sizes and special needs can easily be catered for.
The NHS is now on its feet again. There are always sufficient doctors and nurses on duty and hospital beds. People do not have to wait indefinitely in casualty. As a result, people are consulted and treated in very good time and there are more survivals from very serious illnesses, accidents and injuries, such as cancer and severe head injuries. Above all, our NHS is free to all at all times and the point of need, not the ability to pay."
Gareth Parkin
- "Because one of the fundamental rights of man is the right one has to a free sick bed. We have the richest history, full of men and women who sought justice and equality for those who dared not dream of what they could achieve. We are the only party who can say hand on heart that we work in the interest of the many not the few. "
Eleanor Gellard
- "I'm Labour, because I believe in a country that that has opportunities for all not just the very few.
Labour is the past, present and more importantly the future! What more could I ask for. I have only been around for 19 years but the amount of change for the better! I see looking back most of which is down to the Labour Party I just hope were given the chance to be changing for the better, for the next 19 years!"
Ben Bilverstone
- "I'm Labour because we are the only party that can guarantee social justice in all its forms to all people."
David Marr
- "It is thanks to the Labour Party that someone of my type (having no private medical insurance) was able to live after being involved in a car crash asleep as a passenger resulting in a severe brain injury and broken bones. The NHS mended the breaks, straightened out my leg and arm that were affected by the sort of 'stroke' that I had, taught me how to talk, walk, and gave me various other therapies that mean I am in fact now back in work. Took a while, but all that stuff does.
But that's why I am a member.
Thankful for the NHS that I believe would no longer exist if the Tories had their way."
Brian Moylan
- "Becuase I am proud of what Labour has achieved for children like me who were raised in a single parent family. They helped my mum into more and better work, brought fairness and dignity to the benefit system and opened my horizons to university."
Richard Angell
- "I am Labour because my party strike a certain fairness in equality; led by a fine man; a man whom I believe to be a true 'man of the people'.
This party has had many great leaders; Macdonald, Attlee, Wilson, Blair et al. now we have another fine leader."
Paul Walker
- "I am Labour because it is under a Labour government that people from working class backgrounds like me are given more chances than ever before to have a good state education and to go on to further education at college, university or undertake a Modern Apprenticeship. In addition to this, the Labour government have ensured that hardworking people are paid a fair wage thanks to the introduction of the Minimum Wage, it's hard to think how we managed to live without it."
Claire Shepherd
- "I have voted Labour for many years and hearing Gordin's speech I'm actually beginning to feel that an ideology is at last emerging, something to believe in again and fight for. Well done Gordon now go out and do it!"
margaret mulley
- "Because I believe in a fair society and a fair sharing of the wealth of the country among all its people.
Because pensioners like me need greater help and people on lower wages need better means of alleviating pressures of a growing gap between those who are rich and the poor."
Douglas Hutcheon
- "I was born in 1984. Athough young, I remember the hardship in my area of Knowsley and accept fully that this was down to the Conservatives. Another reason is the good policies such as the National Minimum Wage and Tax Credits so that everybody can get on."
Jack Williams
- "I am Labour becasue I believe in a fair society where everybody is given the same opportunties no matter on race, sex or social background and I believe that working together as a nation will make us stronger."
Daniel Howells
- "I am Labour because I believe that people need a helping hand and to me, this is what Labour offers. I also think that Gordon Brown is the man that is best to lead us through the tough times, despite his bad press. Labour symbolise everything I believe in."
Ewan Allan
- "Because im old enough to remember the last conservative government"
richard smith
- "I am proud to be standing up for Labour as I grew up under a Tory Government and NEVER want to see deprivation in our society like there was in the eighties again."
Rachel Voller
- "I can clearly remember the impact that eighteen years of Conservative government had on my family, my friends, my work colleagues, my neighbourhood and my town.
The country is potentially sleepwalking into a Conservative abyss because the electorate is caught in the headlights of a future where an ounce of image is perceived as being preferrable to a pound of performance.
The Conservative 'government in waiting' is offering a thousand pounds off any car we haven't got in stock ! Right now they cannot offer any solution to anything that can be adequately tested...Gordon Brown and his government are operating in the real world every minute of every day where real things happen in real time to real people. They do not have the luxury of a miscellany of policy groups and the like who offer reactive strategies and approaches that lend themselves to soundbite politics and communication. "
Chris Ward
- "Having never experienced a tory government in my adult life, I've primarily been Labour because of my family. Blind political voting is dangerous and I'm pleased to say that Labour now have my vote not because my father convinces me so, but because I can visibly see the positive influence their policies have on society. I'm proud to vote for the Labour party who, regardless of popularity, will pursue what is right. The smoking ban, the minimum wage, the hunting ban, the successful 2012 London Olympics bid, Liverpool 2008 Capital of Culture, the substantial investment in education and health - all of these have happened under Labour's watch. Labour's investment and dedication to improving society really does make a difference and, for that reason, Gordon Brown has my full support.
Spread the word, people. Let's continue to make Great Britain great under a Labour government."
Matthew Patrick
- "I believe in fairness and equality for all.
I know when Gordon Brown and Tony Blair before him, make the right decisions to take our Country into the future.
Our Schools have every opportunty now to go forward, our NHS has improved (It was becoming non existant with the Tories)
Disabled and less fortunate are cared for. Mental Health care is improving all the time.
Our Policing and SNT are improving areas where needed.
Pensioners are better off.
We need Labour to continue to keep our Country Stable Labour Cares. Well done.
I Will always support Labour.
"
Kathleen Vann
- "I am 50 and have voted Labour in all local and national elections since the age of 17.
I am Labour because the Labour Party's fundamental principle is fairness to all. This makes me feel safe and is what I want for all others."
Sharon Blower
- "Our daughter has just started university, something we could never have afforded if not for Labour's student support loans.Thank you the Labour Government."
Clive Block
- "Because Labour is on the side of the hard working family - unlike the conservatives. I believe in Gordon Brown and what he says. When I listen to him I believe he will do what he says he will do."
Louise Thomson-Elliott
- "I am Labour as my ideals are etched with equality and freedom of speech and the belief that everyone in society should have the same opportunities. For these reasons i believe that for our country to be a true democratic society we need a government with the centre-left ideals of the labour party. A country where people are not discriminated or looked down on just because they are different. A country which i believe Labour provides the best chance of achieving."
Jack Curtis
- "I am Labour because i believe in the equality of all groups in society, and that noone deserves to live in poverty whilst a select few live off everyone else's backs. I detest the tory party and their devotion to greed and indifference to poverty."
Dan Parker
- "Because only Labour has the courage and commitment to fight for the rights of those who have been overlooked by society. Whether it be Labour councils guaranteeing meals on wheels for the elderly or the Labour government providing a life line to working families with Sure Start, there is only one party that is interested in ensuring equality and fairness for the UK."
Gus Baker
- "I am Labour because I am a 16 year old boy who has only really ever experienced a Labour Government, and understands the good they have done for me in my life. I share their basic morals and beliefs, that everyone has equal rights, and that it is right to invest in the public services. I can relate to what they are trying to achieve for this country, and I can back this up with the great achievements from the past 11 years. And I am also Labour because I could not bear to see a Conservative government lead this country, and allow their incompetent ways to cause yet more bad than good."
Carlos Diaz-Sanchez
- "Together we can win the fight for a fairer Britain, that is why I'm Labour. Because Labour always has stood for (and always will stand for) power in the hands of the many, not the few, and because Labour are behind every step towards a fairer Britain. Let's keep it Labour."
Maya Björkman
- "I like to follow a Party containing professionals who get thier head down, get on with the task in hand and do their best for the citizens of a brilliant country who deserve the best possible Government. Obviously Labour."
Matthew Gill
- "I am labour because of my father who voted Labour & believed in fairness for all in British Society. I'm Labour because the party created the NHS & the Tories voted against it's creation in 1945. I'm Labour because I believe in democratic socialism. I'm Labour because of people like Mo Mowlam,Bessy Braddock, Tony Blair, Nye Bevan & Jack Ashley. I'm Labour because I believe Britain should have a fair society free of prejudice & privelage for the the few. I remember the division/greed that Thatcher created in the 1980's.I don't want Britain to return to the dark divisive days of Thatcherism."
Colin Barron
- "I believe in equality for all people. I want a leading party who is willing to follow through and not jump of every band wagon as they feel it will give them more votes. I want a party who gives schools the opportunity to develop instead of being labelled failures. Labour has a far better understanding of education, as has been proved over that last few years. The Tory idea of using private schools to help improve standards is almost laughable and shows which sector of this countries people he is really 'palling up with'.
The Prime Minister is proving that he is able to deal with a global crisis in a calm and effective way. This current economic downturn was not the cause of Labour, although this is what Mr Cameron may wish us to believe, and was an inevitable consequence of the current finacial market. A leader who has the strength of character through action, rather than spin. A leader who is able to admit when mistakes are made, instead of distraction techniqes. A real leader makes their party strong and I feel that the labour party is stronger than it has been for many years. "
Rachel Seymour
- "I lived most of my child hood under a Tory goverment where my parents struggled.
Since we have been under a Labour Goverment Britain has been a much fairer place and Gordon Brown is a decent, honest man."
Peter Loxley
- "The thought of being a headteacher in a Britain run by Cameron and his public school crew terrifies me. Things have improved so much since 1997 and I think many people have forgotten how bleak it was to be in the public sector under the Tories. I spent the first 16 years of my career being embarrassed to say I was a teacher because of the status we had. It's very different now. Things are far from perfect but I want to encourage the Labour Party - it's the only option for me."
Phil Crompton
- "I grew up when Mrs. Thatcher was in power and saw the damage she & the Tories did to this country. We must never go back to those dark days. I believe in a fair & just society with respect and tolerance for all. For me, the Labour Party epitomises that, and that is why I am proud to be Labour."
