The Labour Party is saddened to hear about the death of Rudi Vis, who had served as MP for Finchley and Golders Green.
Rudi Vis died on Sunday evening at the age of 69. He had been diagnosed with cancer and had retired from parliament at the General Election in May this year.
Mr Vis entered parliament in 1997, taking the seat from the Conservatives; Finchley had been held until 1992 by Margaret Thatcher. In 2001 Vis increased his majority and held the seat in the 2005 General Election.
Rudi Vis was a hard-working constituency MP, taking much pride in representing his constituents, taking up casework and speaking in the House of Commons on their behalf.
Acting Leader of the Labour Party Harriet Harman said “Rudi was a well-liked, compassionate MP, he always spoke up for the people of Finchley and Golders Green.
“His work on European affairs in the Council of Europe and his tireless commitment to the issues of his constituents were respected on all sides of the House
“Our thoughts and sympathies are with his wife Jacqui and his three sons”
