A Commonwealth Fund report placed Britain's NHS as the most efficient healthcare system, and second overall, amongst seven other international health systems.
Andy Burnham MP, Labour's Health Secretary, said:
"This major international study is an authoritative endorsement of Labour's stewardship of the NHS over the last 13 years. For the NHS to rank top on efficiency blows apart Tory claims that the NHS wasted money under Labour. But we cannot take the NHS's high performance for granted, and the Government's plans to dismantle Labour's tough waiting time targets threatens to let standards for patients - and our world ranking - slip back."
